Programme English Tests

English is assessed using two papers. Each paper is taken in a one hour session with an additional 7 minutes for reading the paper.

 

Paper 1 is split into two sections.

 

Section A assesses reading and consists of a reading comprehension and a summary either set on one long passage or two separate, shorter passages. The passages are short and have a factual content. The questions are straightforward and explicit (16 marks).

Section B assesses writing and candidates are given a short, focused task with a clear aim and audience. The content is non-narrative (30 marks).

 

Paper 2 is also split into two sections; Section A assesses reading and Section B writing.

 

Section A consists of a long, narrative reading passage with three questions assessing complex reading skills, such as author’s use of language, the development of character and inference (24 marks).

Section B consists of one writing task. The task is short and focused and has a narrative content (30 marks).

Programme Maths Tests

 

Mathematics is assessed using two papers. Each paper is taken in an hour long session.

 

Questions are set on the Number, Algebra and Space sections of the Curriculum Framework in both papers.

 

Both papers contain short structured questions totalling 50 marks. The questions demand a variety of skills including recall of information and application of Mathematical knowledge.

All the questions on both papers are compulsory. As far as possible the questions are arranged in difficulty through each paper.

The use of an electronic calculator (or Tables) is allowed for Paper 2 but not for Paper 1.

Programme Science Tests

Science is assessed using two papers. Each paper is taken in a forty five minute session.

 

Questions are set on the Biology, Physics and Chemistry sections of the Curriculum Framework in both papers.

 

Both papers contain questions totalling 50 marks with a variety of response types including multiple choice and short answer. The questions demand a variety of skills including recall and application of the concepts.

All the questions on both papers are compulsory. As far as possible the questions are arranged in difficulty through the paper in a repeating pattern of topic. On Paper 1 the pattern is Biology, Chemistry, Physics and on Paper 2 the pattern is Physics, Chemistry, Biology.
